How many of you make New Year’s resolutions?  I would guess a great deal of you do!  I would also bet many of you have vowed to start living a healthier lifestyle. Perhaps, you want to exercise more. By definition, “Raw & Living Foods” means foods that are unprocessed, uncooked, and never heated over 115 degrees.  Foods that are alive, with active live enzymes, are packed with vitamins, minerals and nutrition in its natural, God-intended form!  Eating the right combination of Raw & Living Foods will provide your body everything it needs, and it will enable the food to be properly digested, absorbed & assimilated.

There are 2 main causes of disease, as I refer to it,”Dis-Ease” in the body:

  • Toxins
  • Lack of Nutrition or Proper Absorption of that Nutrition

When your body is cleansed of toxins and is getting the proper nutrition, everything works the way it was designed to!  Your immune system will protect your body against harmful illness and disease.  When your body is getting fresh, organic natural, whole food nutrition, the food is easier for your system to digest, you get more energy and your body can heal itself naturally! It is also “self-cleaning”, so it will keep your body cleansed. It’s really quite amazing!

Healing Yourself Holistically

Dealing with healing Fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, Epstein Barr & other serious illnesses require a multi-faceted healing process that is ongoing. Taking care of yourself & your health is the most important key to your quality of life! It involves the physical body & prevention, as well as your spiritual self.

Stress seems to be the one component that is the most difficult to deal with, as we very often don’t have control of the external situations in & around our lives.  I’m a single Mom of a mentally disabled son, so taking care of “me” is often on the back-burner. I have very good results with a combination of holistic modalities, which include most importantly the food & nutrition that my body gets. I do regular detox/natural cleanses.

I’m vegan & consume about 80% raw living foods. I get daily exercise, usually in the form of at least a 30 minute brisk walk. If walking or exercise is painful or difficult at first, try to find an indoor year-round pool at a local Y or gym. Swimming is often an easier way to start out. Check in your community to see if there are water aerobic classes.

I also get regular chiropractic, acupuncture & massage therapy. I use essential oils & aromatherapy on a daily basis. Nice, warm soaks in the tub with sea salts that I add drops of lavender & other organic essential oils is a GREAT way to unwind, & relax the nerves & muscles, joints. I carry a small bottle of lavender in my purse, for stressful Atlanta traffic, & other minor annoyances. I’m ready for it!

Another great way to get stress release is to make a regular date with yourself or friends to watch a funny movie or show that you enjoy! I LOVE Desperate Housewives (my guilty pleasure!), & it makes me laugh, & realize that my life ain’t so bad, after all…haha! Both laughter & exercise are natural anti-depressants…so go ahead; get your giggle on, girl!

Coping With Stress While Striving to Stay Healthy

Happy New Year! As we ring in 2011, I find myself thinking about coping with stress, which seems to a multi-faced ongoing process. It is the one component that I feel is the most difficult to deal with, as we very often don’t have control of the external situations in & around our lives.

As a single Mom of a mentally disabled son, taking care of “me” is often put on the back-burner.  Through experimentation, I have found I have excellent results in reducing stress with a combination of holistic modalities & therapies. This, most importantly, includes the food & nutrition, which really gets my body going!

I do regular detox/natural cleanses. I’m vegan, & about 80% raw living foods. I get daily exercise, usually in the form of at least a 30 minute brisk walk. The Birth of My Virtual Raw Food Cafe

Decide your “WHY”….Why do you want to change your lifestyle to a raw living foods lifestyle? There are a multitude of great reasons…but what are YOURS, personally?  Is it primarily healing, healthy weight loss, prevention, anti-aging, more energy & vibrance? Family role modeling? It needs to be a reason that you are serious, & emotionally attached enough to make a commitment to “change”. They say that either starting a new habit or stopping an old one, takes at least 21 days of consistency. You can make that into smaller, “bite-sizes”. But keep that in mind! Every day is a joyous celebration, & success!

Commitment: Personal…! Write it down on paper, & make it with & for yourself, with the successful END result for you!!!  Envision how you will look & feel after you’ve cleansed, & rejuvenated your body, spirit & life! J  A goal is just a dream, unless you write it down on paper!  That makes it real.   Hang that paper up on your bathroom mirror, or computer, wherever it will inspire you!  If weight loss is one of your issues (& it WILL magically happen, almost effortlessly when you follow my program!), then post a photo of yourself at your optimum healthy weight, or another photo that motivates you to stay focused on track!

Buddy: It’s not always easy, or feasible to have your family understand or support you, although you may be blessed to have at least some of them cheering you on!  They may not understand, or think this could be a “fad”, & often won’t even check it out with you before ‘naysaying’.  Be prepared, (not defensive) for this is often the case. That’s why it’s very important to find a “buddy” that is like-minded, & motivated to make positive, healthy changes to their lifestyle, too!  Once you’ve both decided to do this as a team, you will be a great support emotionally to each other. When one of you has an “off” day, or slips a little, you can pick each other back up, & on track again! Boo boos happen, but do NOT ever let them make you give up! We all make them…this program is sooo forgiving, fun, easy & you will begin feeling the difference soon enough where your energy will begin soaring, your mind & spirit will be clearer & brighter, you will soon not even think about going back to your “old” previous ways & lifestyle!

Menu Guidelines, Recipes – Choosing, Grocery Planning/Lists

Daily Inspiration: Whether reading, listening to CD’s (Tony Robbins is excellent!! He’s all about “re-training” your mind, & becoming the BEST YOU you can become!) Take at least 30 mins. Per day, maybe first thing in the morning, and last thing at night to do this.

Keep a Journal! Keep a journal of foods, recipes, drinks, how much water you drink each day, what you are feeling through out the day of your raw journey….good feelings, even the bad ones that may creep in.  Keeping a chronicle of your experience is a great way to draw out some potential underlying emotions that may have set you back in the first place, & it will add to your enlightenment!

Exercise: Depending on your physical health, you may start out (check with your doctor, first!) slowly, gradually…walking briskly for a min. of 25 mins. each day.  You can build on that, as you feel the need & the ability to do more.  Remember, your energy level & vibrancy will increase, especially after the initial detox period. Try not to get overzealous, though!  Increase a little, each day or two. Whether you have a treadmill at home, or in the gym you belong to, or just walk outside with your “buddy”, add music if you like. Something upbeat, maybe a disco song…something energizing, of course!  If you have a pool, that’s another great exercise, is to swim laps. There are also water aerobics classes at the YWCA & YMCA , using their indoor heated pools year round.  That’s especially good if you have issues with atrhitis, fibromylgia, or other physical medical issue that makes it difficult to walk at first. I have even coached a woman that had a terrible motorcycle accident, & could barely move. The pool becomes her favorite pastime, & she recovered with great success & results!  She was able to tone, lose weight, & rehabilitate her body!
